MI’s Summer Shot gives students 12+ years of age a weeklong, immersive music production experience, right in the heart of the entertainment industry! The music program is designed to give you an understanding of songwriting, visual media, social media, and music production software programs like Logic Pro and Ableton Live.
Not only will you work on your individual skills, but you’ll collaborate with other students to prepare for a final showcase of your music. Starting this year, Summer Shot production students will also spend a full day of the camp experience in our state-of-the-art recording studios, creating and learning with our renowned MI faculty!
PROGRAM DETAILS
Students will receive:
- A certificate of completion
- Credit for the tuition amount paid if they enroll at Musicians Institute as a full-time student
- Audio file of songs created and produced during the program
The Music Production & Recording Summer Shot track focuses on guiding students through the entire process of writing, recording, and producing music. Courses throughout the week include:
- Songwriting: Developing song structure, ideas, style, lyrics and melody
- Digital Music Production: Audio technology, keyboards and software
- DIY Promotion: How to create fans and market your productions
- DAW study (Logic Pro X)
- MIDI & Virtual Instruments
- How to Collaborate with other artists
- How to build and utilize social network platforms
- Visual Media
- Effects Plugins
- Project Advising: Get assistance from music business experts
- Group lab time
Hands-On Studio Experience
We are also excited to announce that this year, in collaboration with MI’s Audio Engineering department, there will also be a full day of studio recording! Students will have the opportunity to bring their projects to one of our world-class Audio Engineering studios, sit in the producer’s chair, and direct studio musicians in their own recording session–all under the guidance of our veteran MI faculty.
All of the Summer Shot program culminates in the final concert on Friday. Student bands from the Performance track will perform live on stage in MI’s Concert Hall, and Music Production students can submit their completed music to be played between the live bands throughout the show.

What is Musicians Institute's Summer Shot program all about?
We are a non-competitive performing summer program for students ages 12 and over, beginners to advanced. Guitar, Bass, Drum, Keyboard and Vocal courses are offered for all levels, ages and styles including blues, jazz, rock, acoustic, classical and songwriting.
Students can also enroll into our music production program to produce their own tracks using the latest production software. Summer Shot offers a one-week program for performance and music production.

Musicians Institute was established as a guitar school, Guitar Institute of Technology, in 1977, and its history and legacy in music continues to be proven and respected.
